    In 2001, the UK implemented a tax on commercial energy use. 'Climate Change Levy' (CCL) is charged according to consumption, and appears on your invoices at the following rates:

    Electricity 0.470 p/kWh
    Gas 0.164 p/kWh
    LPG 1.050 p/Kg
    Other Commodities 1.281 p/Kg

    Some companies can apply for a reduction in this tax (up to 80%), in exchange for a binding commitment to reduce energy use.

    Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC)

    The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme is the Government's Latest initiative to help meet two long term energy challenges:

    To tackle climate change by reducing carbon dioxide emissions
    To ensure clean affordable energy as we become increasingly dependent upon imported fuel.
    Aimed at improving energy efficiency, the initial phase of the scheme will affect all organisations that consume over 6,000 MWh of half hourly metered electricity per annum. At the start of each compliance year, commencing April 2011, qualifying organisations will be required to purchase carbon allowances that they expect to emit during the the year. At the end of each year, carbon emissions will be measured and each organisation ranked in a performance league table. Carbon allowances will then be refunded based on the position within the league table.

    Poor Performers will be penalised - good performers will be rewarded.
